Portraits of portrait painters

My work has been selected for the book Portraits of portrait painters (Portretten van Portrettisten). It has 30 interviews of contemporary artists from The Netherlands and examples of their portraits. The authors are Cathinka Huizing and Harriet Stoop-de Meester (Waanders Uitgevers).


Judith Krebbekx
The publishing of the book will be accompanied by an exhibition Portraits Now (Portrettisten Nu) at Castle Het Nijenhuis in Heino, an annex of Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle.

Apologies with a view

After two months in Mexico and having visited plenty of beautiful places, taking lots of photographs and having many stories to tell on the blog I had been just nearly unable to do it. My laptop is old and slow, the internet connection I 'borrow' from a neighbour I don't know is really slow (terribly slow!) and I stayed the last two weeks at a great place but with not internet at all. I feel like being censored at a 100% rate.

On the other hand all the drawing and reading I had been doing makes me feel really satisfied.
I am very thankful to Maria Ikonomopoulou to keep the blog-fire alive with art from The Netherlands, Greece and others.

Fortis knew it

Very very strange advertisement campaign by Fortis this last Saturday at Financial Times:


Especially looking back now that over this week-end they were saved from bankruptcy by the Benelux governments and trying to get some stability and certainty for the future (for Europe).
"Here today. Where tomorrow?"
Were they being ironical or trying to read the future?
What did they mean by "Getting you there"? What were they thinking when they designed this campaign?

Not having a plan for the week end isn't the problem.
Not having a plan for the next five years might be.
Here today Where tomorrow.

19 September 1985

23 years ago was the big earthquake in Mexico City. People still call it "El temblor", the shake. My life splits on that date. It coincides with feeling finally adult. Now that 'shake' divides my life in two nearly equal parts.
I can still feel my bed moving at the rhythm of my heart, trying to convince my mother that the "Temblor de la Ibero" had been worst. Standing up with some kind of curiosity and researcher soul, I ran the curtain to 'observe' the trembling of the city.
Later the mass shock, and on tv and radio the repeting names of people who were ok, the streets that needed hulp, the little notes on certain walls with a credential photograph, written: Have you seen this person?
In a way I was that person that was found.
My life has that scar, before and after the 'temblor'.

I couldn't be there but it seem it was a very special evening. The painting I donated was bought by someone who wrote me and wants to find more about the story of the painting itself. A very good sign or real interest.
