Plastic battleground

I love hip hop
Yesterday at the Hip Hop festival in The Hague.

The best were the battles, excellent dancers at the tune of great dj's.

Graffiti artists knowing exactly what they were doing.

Entertaining musicians

I don't know who has a better time, the musicians or the public.
The concert of the Nederlans Blazers Ensemble of A Midsummer Night's Dream in the Nieuw Kerk in The Hague was fully enjoyable. The concept is quite special, a well catered fancy dinner in a beautiful modernized very old church listening to an excellent classic music group, performance-like played with singer-clown-actors guest act. Conclusion, it was an evening of beautiful music and big laugh. The special guests were The Ashton Brothers.
It makes me thing of the popular Argentinian group Les Luthiers, with musicians who are far more extreme than the NBE but also make fun of everything.
From their site:
The Nederlans Blazers Ensemble is famous for its high level of performance and its unique and adventurous programming. The ensemble creates music theatre events for the concert hall. Categorisations such as ‘classical’ or ‘contemporary’ are too narrow for their programmes, but one element they all share is a sense of the theatrical.

The dancers of the Bolshoi

It is not the first time I see the Bolshoi ballet group. The first one was in Mexico City in one of the memorable Festival Cervantinos, probably in 1982. Then I also saw the extremely fine and seemingly fragile female ballet dancers at the cafe of the Covarrubias theater, while they were having a rest. I suddenly remember, they were not eating at all but most of them were smoking.
At that time I danced quite a lot, some om my friends even thought I was going to be a professional dancer. Oh no, I never thought about it! For me it was only an extremely tiring and full time hobby or maybe some kind of sport-art.
And if there was any doubt, after seeing the super thin, gracious and extremely body conscious then Soviet dancers I was sure of it. My body had nothing to be compared with those ethereal and nearly floating bodies. You could see that it was their life. It could had never been mine. They were the ballet and ballet was them.
Last Saturday I saw the company for a second time, with very different eyes. Now they were also young and beautiful, as I didn't notice at the Covarrubias. Their strength and nearly acrobatic dances impressed me more than the artistic side of it. I wondered too how faithfull the coreography was to the one of 1968 of Spartacus. I felt it so old fashiones that I was nearly seeing it in black and white. And that was part of my biggest enjoyment of the evening.
We were unlucky that there was another dancer Alexander Petukhov than the long spected Spartacus soloist. One of the ballerinas Svetlana Zakharova who played Phrygia was the one that I enjoyed the most. She was extremely sensual and gracious apart from her typical Russian high qualities from a soloist.
People enjoyed it and I with them. Thanks for the invitation.

Distraction
I had been adding information to The Hague Art Page, in consequence has not been much writing here.
Last I was at the lecture at DCR Nest of Wouter van Riessen resulted in a concert-lecture as he song about 5 songs that had all to do with the chosen topic of the absence of the artist in his art self portraits.
Wouter van Riessen and Eelco van der Lingen.

Concert or birthday party?

Three beauties: Milena, Natasa and Daniela.

As Daniela sings, sister and mother are very moved.
Left Milena, right their mother.

Bernardo Solano with Daniela

Bernardo Solano with Daniela
Natasa Solano celebrated her birthday to be able to convince her beautiful daughter to sing for her. So there we were, filling the small patched chapel in the old center of The Hague, family and friends of Natasa accompanying her on the enjoyment to hear her daughter Daniela Solano singing.
Not only the proud parents Natasa and Bernardo, were happy to hear her, we all were, and we know she will be soon better and better.

Bernardo and Natasa Solan, me.

Bin and Hans.
