A fashion trip

The third exhibition at Groninger Museum:
The fashion show of Bernhard Willhelm & Jutta Kraus.
May I say that I never heard of them before? Any way, a strong theatrical link through all the rooms and very playfully staged with their colourful materials.

This was one of the more visually attractive parts of the show.

The card board box was for me the biggest failure (that is why I tried to leave it outside the photograph).

Reference to Nam June Paik?

German expresionism in Groningen

German expresionism in the Groninger Museum (in the north of The Netherlands) until 11 April 2010.

Each artist was defined by a different bright wall colour.

A good Sunday attraction.

Why look at the paintings if you can read and/or listen about them?

Free train ride

I still remember how surprised I was to get a second book and 'gratis' when I bought one of my Dutch study books as a recently arrived foreigner to The Netherlands. Then I was explained that it was only during the Dutch Book Week.
What I just discovered, many years later, is that on the Sunday during the Dutch Book Week you can use the book you had received as a present instead of a train ticket. I decided to go to Groningen -as far as you can get and still being in The Netherlands-. It was a full train in both directions and most of us were carrying at least one book: our free train ticket.

The Book Week is already finished but here to train impressions with people carrying or reading their Joost Zwagerman ' s Duel ticket-book.
Boekenweek.

I am a fan of Folkert de Jong

When was the last time you went to Groningen? (If you ever!)

My last time, before last week's was maybe more than 10 years ago. The trip to the north paid partly by the Dutch Railway and the Book Week to the very much outdated Groninger Museum -so outdated that starts to look retro- was completely worthwhile.
The German Expressionism exhibition was very big and very nice and it was not even on my plans of the day.

The fashion show of Bernhard Willhelm & Jutta Kraus was kind of a good intro (or was it a contradiction?) to Folkert de Jong's impressive works.
Beforehand I thought this was one of the best shows I've seen on photos (thanks to my blogger friends) but being there convinced me that this is an extraordinary show.

His sculptures are cruel, crude, they are fragile but I am sure they are very light. The last years he had introduced a lot of color and complexity on his works and it makes them even more fascinating.

I was also surprised by the drawings that even though made with pen they have a warm quality even within the scarcity of variation in color. The compositions are fresh and intriguing.
In other words, do not miss this show.
Last day 11 of April!
