Tai Shan Schierenberg, UK
Living in London I went to many model drawing groups. There where three things that astonished me: the amount of thee and cookies that were consumed during lesson, the constant measuring with pencil towards the model and then measuring again on the paper and third the curious similarity in style with Freud's paintings. And it wasn't the heydays of Freud as it is now! I thought that was the English style.
Probably at that time I most have seen the first works of Tai Shan Schierenberg at the Royal Academy or at the school shows, as I saw of many many others with this style. I recently saw one if his works at PAN Amsterdam, a good artist and you still can see remains of the teacher.
