I often complain of the Mexican crafts having less quality (no wonder if you see what people are ready to pay for them) year by year. Something you don't see with Juvenal Bernardino and Enriquta Zenobio's embroidery at the still famous Bazar del Sabado in San Angel, Mexico City. They are authentic masters in their embroidery technique. Most of their textiles are faithful to their Mazahua background but they also bring own input in their work.
Juvenal sadly told me that only his wife can speak Mazahua because as a kid at school he was punished whenever he talked in his parents' language. He also commented on the irony that now children in his town are encouraged to speak Mazahua.
The last two photo's are taken also at San Angel.
