Thick paint

I used to go to this office while living in London, where there was a painting a really liked. I enjoyed it in the distance but also with a few centimeters of distance to my nose. I used to smell the oil paint of this Frank Auerbach work. Even though it had been painted many years before it was so thickly painted that the oil was not yet dry and still soft.
Here some example of artists who enjoy the "thick oil" mystery.

7 days to know the art world

Sarah Thornton’s Seven Days in the Art World
I already read this highly entertaining book some time ago. It explains in each chapter a different aspects of the art market. And money of course moving about everything.
Recommended.
